Eine gute Gelegenheit, um mit Francisco Goya über seine Segelmarke Goya Sails zu sprechen. Das Interview führte Andrew Buchanan von der PWA.
PWA: Goya Sails ist gerade als Kooperationspartner der World Cup Tour eingestiegen, warum hast Du Dich zu diesem Schritt entschlossen?
Fransico Goya: “I’ve always backed the PWA through my career as an athlete, and it’s the same story now I have a brand with riders on tour. I’ve always believed you should back the people that are pushing the sport forward, and it’s good to give something back to the sport of windsurfing after I’ve got so much from it.”

Du hast gerade Levi Siver in‘s Goya Sails Team geholt, bist Du stolz darauf eine der 'Ikonen' des Windsurfsports verpflichtet zu haben?
Fransico Goya: “It’s a dream come true. Watching him grow up and seeing him sailing Hookipa at just 12, I used to wonder how good he’d get. Now I watch him pushing the boundaries of the sport every single day. He’s simply ahead of all the equipment out there. Now we’ve developed a really natural relationship, we meet everyday at the loft or office, then we go ride and do it all over again the next day. Good things usually come out of this!”

Wird Levi in die Entwicklungsarbeit bei Goya Sails eingebunden?
Fransico Goya: “For sure, this summer we’re launching his sail range. He’s a big influence in the development of our gear. Not only that, but he has ideas for promoting the sport through his projects like the windsurfing movie two.”
Du hast Dich mit Deinem Abschneiden in der Single Elimination eindrucksvoll auf der Tour zurückgemeldet. Ist Dein Start hier auf Sal ein Einzelfall, oder werden wird Dich wieder öfter bei einem PWA Event in den Wellen sehen?
Fransico Goya: “I’m really playing it by ear, I just had this window of opportunity. Back in Maui we’ve just finished the ‘10 gear, and I had a few weeks to come ride here with a great crew: Levi, Kai and the guys from Poorboyz so I just went for it.”

Hast Du Dir Dein Comeback so erfolgreich vorgestellt?
Fransico Goya: “You come to an event and you always hope that you’ll sail your best, but you have no idea how well the others are going to sail. I thought I sailed pretty good though. I’m much more relaxed competing now than before, that helps!”
